6 March 2013: The Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS) and its technical institution, AGRHYMET Regional Center, have launched a new platform dedicated to climate change and sustainable land management.

The platform provides information concerning adaptation, particularly in the context of food security in the CILSS/Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) countries. It includes an agenda of upcoming events in the region, news from recent projects and funding opportunities.

In addition, the resources section provides a database of relevant climate change and land management projects in the region, as well as thematic articles in areas such as climate change adaptation and mitigation, and climate science.

The platform is an element of the “Adaptation to climate change in the Agriculture and Water Sectors in West Africa” project of the Fonds Français pour l’Environnement Mondial (FFEM). AGRHYMET is an inter-State public institute based in Niamey, Niger, which aims to: contribute to food security and increased agricultural production in the CILSS member States; and improve natural resources management in the Sahelian region. At present, the information is available only in French. [IISD RS Sources] [CILSS Climate Change Portal] [AGRHYMET Website] [CILSS Website]
