21 June 2012: The Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) convened “Forests: The Eighth Roundtable at Rio+20,” on the sidelines of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 19 June 2012.

The event aimed to ensure that forests remain high on the agenda in 2012, following concerns about forests having been “largely excluded” from the key issues identified for action at Rio+20. The event included panel discussions on: energy, food and income; water and climate; and a policy discussion panel on current forestry research.

In addition, a Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force roundtable discussed building pathways for low emissions sustainable development. [Webpage of Forests Roundtable] [CIFOR Analysis of Forests Outcomes at Rio+20]
