The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) has released its February news update highlighting the upcoming Forests Asia Summit, which will be held under the theme ‘Sustainable landscapes for green growth in Southeast Asia.'
1 March 2014: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) has released its February news update highlighting the upcoming Forests Asia Summit, which will be held under the theme ‘Sustainable landscapes for green growth in Southeast Asia.’
The news update also provides an overview of CIFOR’s call for a forest sustainable development goal (SDG) at the UN Open Working Group on SDGs and through the Landscapes.org SDGs series.
On REDD+, the news update references recent discussions on ForestsClimateChange.org around the anticipated US$12 billion funding gap for REDD+ implementation. Discussions focus on the role of governments in bridging the funding gap, options for multilateral payments, views of the business sector, and requirements for attracting large-scale investments.
Finally, the news update highlights two blog posts. The first discusses policy and governance needs to address peatland fires in Indonesia, which are currently resulting in smoke clouds across Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. The second blog post calls for inputs on landscape approaches to food production. The inputs will be used in a research project on food production systems that have minimal negative impacts on ecosystems.
