China’s Central Committee Meeting Calls for Active Involvement in Climate Change, 2030 Agenda

The Communique of the fifth Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee Meeting of the Communist Party of China (CPC) indicates that China will actively undertake international responsibilities and obligations including active involvement in responding to global climate change negotiations and active participation in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Flag of China29 October 2015: The Communique of the fifth Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee Meeting of the Communist Party of China (CPC) indicates that China will actively undertake international responsibilities and obligations including active involvement in responding to global climate change negotiations and active participation in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Communique will form the basis for the upcoming 13th five-year plan for China.

Among other elements, the Communique also calls for promoting the development of a low-carbon clean, safe and efficient modern energy system, and the implementation of near-zero emissions demonstration project areas. It also calls for comprehensive conservation and efficient use of resources, and establishing a resource-saving intensive recycling concept, establishing and improving energy rights, water rights and emission rights, and promoting the formation of thrift in society.
