China-Japan-Korea Global Compact Roundtable Discusses Common Challenges

The third Global Compact China-Japan-Korea Roundtable launched a joint study, which looks at corporate sustainability practices of 18 companies from these countries with a specific focus on value chain management, gender empowerment, corporate sustainability activities and stakeholder engagement.

25 November 2011: The third Global Compact China-Japan-Korea Roundtable (CJK Roundtable) emphasized its commitment to collaborating and engaging participants from their respective countries in the UN Global Compact through the Roundtable.

The Roundtable discussed common challenges of the local networks in promoting the Global Compact goals, especially in the area of value chain management, social enterprise and corporate sustainability leadership. Participants also talked about companies’ engagement in disaster relief. The roundtable also launched a joint study entitled “Being Responsible in East Asia: CSR Practices of Global Compact Members in China, Japan, and Korea, which looks at corporate sustainability practices of 18 companies from these countries with a specific focus on value chain management, gender empowerment, corporate sustainability activities and stakeholder engagement.

Finally, the Global Compact networks agreed to support the introduction and launch of the Global Compact in Myanmar and mobilize support therein in the lead-up to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20). [UN Global Compact Press Release]
