CFS28 February 2016: The second session of the Open Ended Working Group (OEWG) on Nutrition of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) addressed a revised proposal for CFS engagement in advancing nutrition, drafted on the basis of discussions at the first session, electronic comments from participants and inputs from the Technical Task Team.

The OEWG session was held on 25 February 2016, at the headquarters of the World Food Programme (WFP), in Rome, Italy. Participants noted that a request for a report on nutrition and food systems had been submitted to the CFS High Level Panel of Experts, and discussed a vision for CFS work in nutrition, expressing preference for addressing all forms of malnutrition versus emphasizing undernutrition, and for a food systems approach. The OEWG also discussed possible CFS functions and activities regarding work in nutrition.

Discussions are expected to continue at the third session of the OEWG, scheduled for 29 April 2016, for a proposal to be submitted to the CFS 43rd Plenary session, to be held from 17-22 October 2016, in Rome, Italy. [IISD RS Coverage of the Meeting][Meeting Documents][CFS Website]
