CEM Working Group on Solar and Wind Energy Launches CaDRE
story highlights

Developed through CEM Multilateral Working Group on Solar and Wind Energy Technologies, CaDRE is a diagnostic tool that analyzes the current capacity of countries with regards to renewable energy, and identifies gaps and needs required to further deploy such technologies.

IRENA5 July 2012: The Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Multilateral Working Group on Solar and Wind Energy Technologies has helped develop and launch “Capacity Needs Diagnostics for Renewable Energies” (CaDRE), which aims to provide governments with the processes and tools necessary to analyze the current capacity of their renewable energy industries.

CaDRE was elaborated through the partnership of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía (IDAE), the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The gaps and needs revealed by a CaDRE analysis can help countries identify areas needing work in order to support the development of renewable energy.

Implementing a CaDRE assessment involves the CaDRE Handbook, which outlines the systematic process, and CaDRE Toolbox, for use during the assessment. CaDRE’s guidelines are modular and contain user-friendly tools that permit countries to select the method most appropriate to their conditions. The outcome is a comprehensive and informative analysis of the national capacities related to the deployment of renewable energy technologies. [IRENA Press Release] [CaDRE Handbook] [CaDRE Toolbox]
