25 July 2012: The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) Board of Directors approved a US$245,812 technical assistance grant to Anguilla to help it update its environmental and zoning legislation to address land use management, and to effectively tackle current environmental problems and emerging challenges such as climate change.

The grant will be used to a legal consultant, an institutional specialist and public outreach experts to help the Anguillan Government develop and draft an updated and integrated set of environmental legislation and implementing regulations that emphasizes strengthened interagency coordination and collaboration as well as transparent, inclusive and participatory environmental governance.

According to the Bank, the need for a comprehensive revamping of Anguilla’s environmental and land planning legislation became apparent during stakeholder consultations held as part of the development of a Sustainable Tourism Master Plan funded by another Bank grant. [CDB Press Release]
