CCAFS Tool Simulates Climate Change Impacts on Croplands

Colorado State University, with support from the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), has produced a new tool that simulates changes in rangelands over time, from a few to thousands of years.

CCAFS22 April 2014: Colorado State University, with support from the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), has produced a new tool that simulates changes in rangelands over time, from a few to thousands of years.

The G-Range tool builds on the Century model that is used to understand soil chemistry and tracks changes in carbon and nitrogen. The tool uses spatial data to let the model simulate global rangelands, and has been revised through comparing real world data with model outputs. The model examines the growth of herbs, shurbs and trees, as well as the changes in these proportions of plant types over landscapes. It provides opportunities to integrate information on specific of interest for individual users.
