CBD, UNU-IAS to Cooperate on Master Programme in Environmental Governance and Biodiversity

An agreement between the UN University–Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will allow the CBD to collaborate in managing the UNU-IAS' new Master of Science (MSc) programme in environmental governance with a specialization in biodiversity from a multi-disciplinary perspective.

11 October 2011: The UN University-Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) launched a Master of Science (MSc) programme in environmental governance with a specialization in biodiversity from a multi-disciplinary perspective. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and UNU-IAS will allow the CBD Secretariat to collaborate in managing the new MSc programme, and UNU-IAS to support implementation of the Convention.

The agreement also aims to promote exchange of staff and provide internships to post-graduate students in the Secretariat.

At the inauguration ceremony, held on 10 October 2011, in Tokyo, Japan, Ahmed Djoghlaf, CBD Executive Secretary, delivered a keynote presentation titled “The Aichi Nagoya: the embryo of the new biodiversity governance system.” [CBD Communiqué]
