CBD “Square Brackets” Newsletter Focuses on Aichi Targets

The seventh issue of [square brackets], the newsletter focusing on the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and civil society, has been made available online.

The issue includes the perspectives on achieving the targets of six Aichi Biodiversity Targets Task Force members, including the Heads of UNEP, CITES, FAO, GEF, IFAD and UNESCO.

October 2012: The seventh issue of [square brackets], the newsletter on the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and civil society, has been made available online. With a special focus on the Aichi biodiversity targets, this issue features the perspectives of the Heads of five agencies that are members of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets Task Force, and of the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The publication includes submissions from the Heads of: the UN Environment Programme (UNEP); the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES); the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO); the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD); and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The newsletter further includes a message by CBD Executive Secretary Braulio Ferreira de Souza Dias on moving toward implementation, and articles from various civil society representatives on: global biodiversity financing; ecosystems, economy and employment; integrating health concerns into biodiversity planning; enforcement; equitable governance and management in protected areas; and synthetic biology.
