CBD Secretariat Stresses Timely Submission of Fifth National Report

The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) issued a notification outlining relevant preparation for the submission of the fifth national report, and stressing that timely submission is necessary in order to contribute to the mid-term review of the implementation of the Strategic Plan by the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-12) and to the development of the fourth edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO-4).

CBD26 February 2013: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) issued a notification outlining relevant preparation for the submission of the fifth national report, and stressing that timely submission is necessary in order to contribute to the mid-term review of the implementation of the Strategic Plan by the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-12) and to the development of the fourth edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO-4).

The fifth national report should be submitted by all CBD parties by 31 March 2014. The CBD Secretariat has circulated relevant guidance, including the guidelines for the fifth national report annexed to Decision X/10 on national reporting; a portal for the fifth national report accessible on the Convention’s website containing several resources; and guidance on the type of information needed for GBO-4.

In addition, a series of capacity-development workshops are being organized for least developed countries and small island developing States (SIDS), and partnerships with relevant organizations, including the Global Environment Facility (GEF), have been developed, to support preparation of the report.
