CBD10 April 2014: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has issued an update on the fifth national reports, which in accordance to COP Decision X/10, were to be submitted by 31 March 2014.

The fifth national reports provide an opportunity for parties to internationally report on domestic progress made on biodiversity commitments since the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the CBD in 2010. These reports will provide an important source of information for the mid-term review of progress towards the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and progress towards the Aichi biodiversity targets. The review will be undertaken by COP 12, to be held in October 2014, in Pyeongchang, the Republic of Korea.

The reports will also contribute to the development of the fourth edition of the ‘Global Biodiversity Outlook.’ To date, 40 countries have submitted their fifth national reports, and another 26 have shared advanced drafts. [CBD Communiqué][Fifth National Report Information Portal]
