21 January 2009: In preparation for the second meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on biodiversity and climate change, to be held from 18-22 April 2009, in Helsinki, Finland, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited organizations actively participating in issues related to biodiversity and climate change to submit nominations of experts no later than 20 February 2009.

It is recalled that the AHTEG will address scientific and technical matters concerning the links between biodiversity and climate change, including: identifying approaches linking biodiversity and climate change related risk and vulnerabilities; identifying and developing proposals for enhancing the linkages between biodiversity and climate change adaptation; analyzing the value and benefits from integrating biodiversity within climate change adaptation; identifying means to apply the ecosystem approach and ecosystem restoration as tools for climate change adaptation and climate risk reduction; and identifying measures that enable ecosystem restoration from the adverse impacts of climate change.
