4 March 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited nominations for an international meeting on sustainable use with a focus on customary use of biodiversity, to be held from 1-3 June 2011, in Montreal, Canada.

Parties, governments, international organizations and indigenous and local community (ILC) organizations should submit their nominations no later than 8 April 2011. The international meeting on Article 10 (Sustainable Use of Components of Biological Diversity) with a focus on Article 10(c) (customary use of biological resources) aims, building on the Addis Ababa Principles and Guidelines, to develop further guidance on sustainable use and related incentive measures of ILCs and also consider measures to increase the engagement of ILCs and governments at national and local levels in the implementation of Article 10 and the ecosystem approach. Thanks to the patronage of the Governments of Canada and Japan, the Secretariat will provide sponsorship to a limited number of experts, including ILC representatives. [CBD Notification]
