CBD Secretariat Invites Nominations for High-level Panel on Global Assessment of Resources

A global assessment of the resources required to implement the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and achieve the Aichi Biodiversity Targets is being co-sponsored by the Governments of the UK and India.

It aims to support discussions on resource mobilization and innovative financing at COP 11.

To this end, the CBD Secretariat has invited nominations of experts to serve on a regionally balanced, high-level panel to guide the assessment.

CBD10 February 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited governments and relevant organizations to nominate experts to serve on a regionally balanced, high-level panel to guide a global assessment of the resources required to implement the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and achieve the Aichi Biodiversity Targets.

The assessment is co-sponsored by the Governments of the UK and India, and aims to support discussions on resource mobilization and innovative financing at the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the CBD, to be held in October 2012, in Hyderabad, India. The Government of India has invited Pavan Sukhdev to Chair the high-level panel following his work on The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) as the Study Leader.

The panel’s work will be supported by a number of research projects commissioned by the UK. The panel will provide overall guidance to this work, ensure peer review and prepare a synthesis of the results.

The panel will consist of up to eight members, including both economists and scientists, and reflecting the relevant range of scientific, technical and socioeconomic views and expertise, geographical representation and gender balance.
