4 February 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has issued a notification including information on the upcoming work plan of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of relevance to the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.

Noting the increasing focus on the links between biodiversity and climate change, the CBD Secretariat has drawn attention to a number of chapters, to be drafted in the framework of the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report. Regarding the work of Working Group II (Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability), the notification highlights: Chapter 3 on Freshwater Resources; Chapter 4 on Terrestrial and Inland Water Systems; Chapter 5 on Coastal Ecosystems and Low-lying Areas; Chapter 6 on Ocean Systems; Chapter 14 on Adaptation Needs and Options; and Chapter 20 on Climate-resilient Pathways -Adaptation, Mitigation and Sustainable Development.
