CBD Secretariat Highlights IPCC Work Plan of Relevance to Biodiversity

Noting the increasing focus on the links between biodiversity and climate change, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has issued a notification including information on the upcoming work plan of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of relevance to the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.

4 February 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has issued a notification including information on the upcoming work plan of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of relevance to the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.

Noting the increasing focus on the links between biodiversity and climate change, the CBD Secretariat has drawn attention to a number of chapters, to be drafted in the framework of the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report. Regarding the work of Working Group II (Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability), the notification highlights: Chapter 3 on Freshwater Resources; Chapter 4 on Terrestrial and Inland Water Systems; Chapter 5 on Coastal Ecosystems and Low-lying Areas; Chapter 6 on Ocean Systems; Chapter 14 on Adaptation Needs and Options; and Chapter 20 on Climate-resilient Pathways -Adaptation, Mitigation and Sustainable Development. Regarding the work of Working Group III (Mitigation of Climate Change), the notification highlights Chapter 11 on Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Uses (AFOLU). [The Notification]
