CBD Secretariat and South Africa Government to Cooperate on Biodiversity for Development

The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Government of South Africa, through its Department of Water and Environmental Affairs, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further promote South-South and triangular cooperation on biodiversity for development.

CBD29 September 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Government of South Africa, through its Department of Water and Environmental Affairs, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further promote South-South and triangular cooperation on biodiversity for development.

Signed on the margins of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the MoU aims to contribute to the biodiversity component of the agenda for South-South Cooperation through a variety of activities, including: organization of joint regional workshops and other capacity-building activities on the transboundary management of biodiversity, with the involvement of relevant regional mechanisms; joint promotion of international scientific collaboration on biodiversity; and promotion of the biodiversity-related awareness and knowledge at various levels through joint campaigns and celebrations [CBD Communiqué]
