CBD June Bulletin Highlights Meetings on ABS, NBSAPs, Biosafety

The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) published its Monthly Bulletin of Activities for June 2011, which includes reports, among others, on the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit-sharing, and regional workshops on updating national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs).

CBD12 September 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has published its Monthly Bulletin of Activities for June 2011, which includes reports on, among others, the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit-sharing (ABS), and regional workshops on updating national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs).

In June 2011, workshops on NBSAPs were held in Brazzaville, Congo, and Kigali, Rwanda. The first meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol was preceded by a capacity-building workshop on ABS, jointly organized by the Secretariats of the CBD and the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR).

Furthermore, the bulletin includes reports on: the ad hoc technical expert group (AHTEG) meeting on indicators for the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020; the first regional workshop on the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and the AHTEG on risk assessment and risk management held in Mexico City, Mexico; the international meeting on customary sustainable use of biodiversity; the 11th meeting of the Coordination Mechanism for the Global Taxonomy Initiative (GTI); and the joint meeting of the CBD Liaison Group on Bushmeat and the CITES Central Africa Bushmeat Working Group [Publication: Monthly Bulletin of Activities of the Convention on Biological Diversity, Issue No. 6/2011]
