CBD Invites Nominations for Central and Eastern European Workshop on Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol

The regional workshop will introduce the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol and identify needs and requirements by Parties to the Cartagena Protocol, with a view to expediting its early entry into force and implementation.

5 May 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited Parties from the Central and Eastern European Region, as well as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, to nominate one representative each to participate in a regional workshop on the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. The workshop will take place in Slovenia in June 2011.

The workshop will introduce the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol and identify needs and requirements by Parties to the Cartagena Protocol, with a view to expediting its early entry into force and implementation. The workshop also will provide an opportunity for participants to consider issues related to the implementation of other decisions of the fifth meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP/MOP 5), in particular regarding the preparation of second national reports, assessment and review, and the strategic plan.
