6 October 2014: Achim Steiner, UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Executive Director, has announced the extension of the term of Dr. Braulio Ferreira de Souza Dias as the Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The announcement was made at the opening plenary of the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 12) to the CBD.

Dias was appointed for his first term on 20 January 2012. CBD COP 12 is convening from 6-17 October 2014, in Pyeongchang, the Republic of Korea.
