9 September 2010: On the occasion of the 15th World Clean Air Congress, organized by the International Union of Air Pollution Prevention and Environmental Protection Associations (IUAPPA) from 12-16 September 2010, in Vancouver, Canada, Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), highlighted the linkages between biodiversity and climate change.

Djoghlaf stressed that pollution and climate change are two of the main drivers of biodiversity loss. He noted that ecosystems can play a significant role in mitigating climate change through enhanced carbon sequestration and storage, and provided examples of land management practices that can effectively contribute to mitigation.
