CBD22 February 2013: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has issued a notification encouraging CBD National Focal Points and stakeholders to actively engage in national-level discussions on the UN’s post-2015 development agenda, in order to highlight the critical role of the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in maintaining ecosystems that provide essential services, and which are the foundations for sustainable development and human well-being.

The notification was issued in accordance with Decision XI/22 of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the CBD, which encourages Parties and all partners concerned to consider the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the Aichi targets in developing the post-2015 development agenda and in the process of establishing sustainable development goals (SDGs). The Decision also requests the CBD Secretariat to provide information on the ways and means for CBD National Focal Points to engage in these processes.

The UN is supporting a process of national consultations on the post-2015 development agenda in at least 60 countries. [CBD Notification] [Website for National Consultations]
