CBD Conducting Survey on Island Biodiversity PoW
story highlights

The survey is accepting responses until 4 November 2011, and aims to assess three themes: how the Convention on Biological Diversity's (CBD) Programme of Work on Island Biodiversity (PoWIB) has supported implementation of the CBD; obstacles and barriers to implementing the PoWIB; and priorities for capacity building for implementation of the PoWIB.

CBDNovember 2011: In preparation for the in-depth review of the Convention on Biological Diversity’s (CBD) Programme of Work on Island Biodiversity (PoWIB), a questionnaire survey is being conducted to contribute to a pre-session document, to be tabled at the 16th meeting of the CBD’s Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 16), in May 2012.

The questionnaire survey is aimed at individuals, donors, researchers, government, NGOs, communities and “any person or body engaged in biodiversity conservation on islands.” It aims to assess three themes: how the PoWIB has supported implementation of the CBD; obstacles and barriers to implementing the PoWIB; and priorities for capacity building for implementation of the PoWIB. The survey is conducted through the Secretariat of the CBD, by consultants responsible for producing the in-depth review (IDR) pre-session document.

The PoWIB was adopted by CBD COP 8 in 2006, and COP 9 requested the SBSTTA to undertake the IDR, for consideration at COP 11 in 2012.

Responses to the survey are being accepted until 4 November 2011. All answers are multiple-choice, with an option to write more, and is estimated to take 15 minutes to complete. [PoWIB Questionnaire Survey]
