CBD Co-hosts Biodiversity Workshop for Quebec-based Companies

The workshop focused on mainstreaming biodiversity concerns into business models, including the risks and opportunities related to biodiversity loss and ecosystem services.

22 March 2011: Representatives from 30 companies joined the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) for a workshop on “biodiversity for Quebec-based enterprises.”

Co-sponsored by the Canadian Business and Biodiversity Council, the Conseil patronal de l’environnement du Québec (CPEQ), the Quebec Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, and the Quebec Centre for Biodiversity Science (CSBQ), the workshop focused on mainstreaming biodiversity concerns into business models, including the needs, interests and challenges for industry. CBD Executive Secretary Ahmed Djoghlaf noted that the Secretariat is pleased to work with Canadian partners to encourage the business community in Quebec to adopt commitments in support of the implementation of the CBD Strategic Plan 2011-2020.

The workshop included presentations on: the risks and opportunities related to biodiversity loss and ecosystem services; the Canadian Business and Biodiversity Council’s “Guide to Biodiversity Conservation for Canadian Business;” and the CSBQ’s Project of Developing Guidelines on Biodiversity for Companies.
