CBD6 September 2011: The report of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on Indicators for the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020, convened from 20-24 June 2011, in High Wycombe, UK, has been made available for comments.

The AHTEG meeting, convened on the basis of COP Decision X/7, discussed the further development of indicators agreed through COP Decisions VII/30 and VIII/15 and indicators suggested in documentation on the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020, as well as additional indicators to constitute a coherent framework designed to assess progress towards the Strategic Plan targets. The AHTEG also considered further guidance and options for the establishment of mechanisms to support parties in their efforts to develop national indicators and associated biodiversity monitoring and reporting systems, and advice on the strengthening of linkages between global and national indicator development and reporting.

Comments on the report are invited by 15 October 2011. The results of the AHTEG were used in the preparation of the document on “Suggested Indicators for the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets,” which will be discussed during the fifteenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 15), to be held in November 2011, in Montreal, Canada [CBD Notification][AHTEG Report]
