March 2013: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has published a newsletter on ‘Biodiversity for Sustainable Development,’ highlighting biodiversity’s contribution to the development agenda, relevant targets of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity, as well as relevant activities of the CBD Secretariat.

The newsletter notes that biodiversity must be recognized as the foundation of economic productivity, prosperity and sustainable development, and be backed by new economic regulations and governance. The Convention’s Biodiversity for Poverty Eradication and Development Initiative, and other work and publications of relevance undertaken under the Convention framework are briefly presented.
