CBD Calls for Submissions on Customary Use of Biodiversity

The CBD Secretariat is asking Parties, governments, international organizations, and indigenous and local communities to submit views on a new element of the programme of work on traditional knowledge, which will focus on the customary use of component of biodiversity in accordance with traditional cultural practices.

CBD20 June 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is asking Parties and stakeholders to submit their views and contributions regarding a new component to the work programme on traditional knowledge (Article 8(j)), which will focus on customary use of biological resources in accordance with traditional cultural practices that are compatible with conservation or sustainable use requirements (Article 10(c)).

The request for submissions follows a recommendation of the Ad hoc Open-ended Working Group on Article 8(j) and related provisions, which requests the CBD Executive Secretary to compile submissions and make them available to the 11th meeting of the CBD Conference of the Parties (COP 11).

Parties, governments, international organizations and representatives of indigenous and local communities (ILCs) are invited to submit their contributions by 16 July 2012. [CBD Notification]
