The 15-member Compliance Committee established under the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety held its first meeting, from 14-16 March 2005, in Montreal, Canada.

The Committee approved its rules of procedure and a work plan, and agreed that its second meeting would take place in early 2006. One of the topics set down for consideration is that of general issues of compliance that may arise from the interim national reports due by 11 September 2005, as well as information provided through the Biosafety Clearing-House. The Committee also noted the importance of assisting Parties in the preparation and timely submission of their interim national reports. The report of the meeting.
