13 March 2009: The Caribbean Workshop on the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) and related chemicals and hazardous waste management instruments convened in Bridgetown, Barbados, from 10-13 March 2009. The workshop concluded, inter alia: that the Second International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM-2) should formally recognize and support the regional coordination committees established by several regions; that Global Environment Facility (GEF) national focal points and the GEF Council Member for the Caribbean should pursue the establishment of a new focal area in GEF for integrated chemicals management; and that ICCM-2 should consider the GEF as one of the mechanisms for the long-term financing of SAICM.
