ECREEE8 January 2015: The Government of Cape Verde has reaffirmed its commitment to the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) of the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS), by hosting a handover ceremony of land earmarked for ECREEE’s headquarters.

The symbolic ceremony and the new headquarters are expected to enable and foster conditions for ECREEE’s activities. One of the salient considerations impacting the decision to select Cape Verde as the host for the ECREEE headquarters is the multitude of renewable energy initiatives the country has pursued.

During the ceremony, speakers highlighted the role of the Center of Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance (CERMI), a training center built by the Government of Cape Verde, and its potential benefit to the ECOWAS region. They also introduced the architectural plan of the headquarters as a model of a green and energy efficient building that will be developed using the principles of bioclimatic architecture and based on sustainability principles.
