bip10 October 2014: The Biodiversity Indicators Partnership (BIP) has announced that the 2014 edition of the Aichi Targets Passport is available as an application (app) for smartphones. The app allows users to navigate quickly through the Passport, which provides an annual update of progress under the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020.

In the app’s “Explorer” section, users can select an Aichi Goal or Target to read its text, and then select further detail on the indicators for the Target. Symbols, explained in a key within the app, communicate important information about each indicator.

The Aichi Targets Passport, first released in October 2012, is a compilation of global indicators for each Target. The indicators track progress made toward the Targets and highlight the existing baselines against which future progress can be measured. The 2014 iteration of the Passport was released in conjunction with the Convention on Biological Diversity’s (CBD’s) fourth edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO-4).

The UN Environment Programme – World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) hosts the Secretariat of BIP, which unites over 40 organizations working to develop biodiversity indicators. [UNEP-WCMC Press Release] [BIP Press Release]
