Bioversity Shares Draft on Mutually Supportive Implementation of ITPGR and Nagoya Protocol

Bioversity International has shared a discussion draft exploring the mutually supportive implementation of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR) and the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit-sharing (ABS).

The draft was developed through a series of interactions involving the national focal points for the ITPGR and the Nagoya Protocol, experts and stakeholders.

The draft was developed through a series of interactions involving the national focal points for the ITPGR and the Nagoya Protocol, experts and stakeholders.

The document includes an overview of the Nagoya Protocol’s provisions, the ITPGR Multilateral System of ABS; addresses challenges regarding mutual supportiveness and national coordination; presents stakeholders’ experiences and scenarios to address grey areas in policy formulation, implementation and coordination; and outlines options for improved coordination.
