27 May 2011: Bioversity International has released the first module in a Training Guide for non-specialists, titled “Forest Genetic Resources,” to help practitioners make decisions related to in situ and ex situ conservation, threats and small populations of individual plant species. The first module focuses on Species Genetic Conservation, including conservation paradigms, biological corridors, genetic processes with small populations, and threats identification.

The Guide includes practical issues, case studies, and flexible audiovisual tools for a variety of formal and informal training and learning situations. The forthcoming modules in the FGR training guide will cover: trees outside of forests; seed supply chains; forest management; and local scale adaptation.
