February 2013: In a revised edition of “On-farm Management of Agricultural Biodiversity in Nepal: Good Practices,” Bioversity International presents a series of tools and lessons learned on identifying agricultural biodiversity and empowering farmers and communities to manage this resource.

The publication outlines participatory methods to assess local biodiversity and understand its role in local livelihoods. A number of the chapters describe approaches to scaling-up activities and communicate best practices, for example the use of diversity fairs, social seed networks and rural radio programmes. Other chapters highlight approaches to enhance biodiversity through seed banks, diversity kits, participatory plant breeding and economic incentives to support agrobiodiversity conservation.

Many of the lessons provided are of broad relevance and can be applied outside of Nepal. Bioversity International is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). [Publication: On-farm Management of Agricultural Biodiversity in Nepal: Good Practice]
