The group of technical experts on an internationally recognized certificate of origin/source/legal provenance of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) met from 22-25 January 2007, in Lima, Peru.

In the framework of the CBD discussion on access and benefit-sharing (ABS), such a certificate would serve as a mechanism to ensure transparency in the flow of genetic resources. The group discussed different options for the certificate, their feasibility, implementation challenges, and potential costs and benefits. The report of the meeting will be forwarded to the fifth meeting of the CBD Working Group on ABS, to be held from 8-12 October 2007, in Montreal, Canada.
