Guidelines for the environmentally sound management of wastes, mobile phones and obsolete ships were on the agenda at a recent meeting of the Basel Convention on hazardous wastes.

The Open-ended Working Group of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal met in Geneva from 4-8 July 2005, to prepare for the next biannual ministerial conference in late 2006. Parties to the Convention also witnessed the signing of an agreement establishing a Basel Convention Regional Center for Training and Technology Transfer, in Argentina. More information.
