Ban Ki-moon Highlights Role of Business in Pursuing Sustainable Development

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, addressing the Global Compact Board, highlighted the importance of business and public-private partnerships in achieving sustainable development outcomes, and the opportunities provided by the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) to bring such partnerships into the spotlight.

16 December 2011: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon addressed the role that businesses play in advancing sustainable development and called for greater public-private partnerships, at a meeting of the UN Global Compact Board, in New York, US, on 16 December 2011.Ban noted that at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), business cannot be put aside given its centrality to pursuing sustainable development goals. He highlighted the growth and evolution of the Global Compact, and underscored that Rio+20 provides a great opportunity for the Compact to bring public-private partnerships into the spotlight.
