The UN Development Programme (UNDP) Drylands Development Centre, in collaboration with the UN Convention on Combating Desertification (UNCCD) Global Mechanism and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), convened an international workshop from 18-20 June 2007 in Bamako, Mali, gathering governments, civil society, bilateral and multilateral partners to discuss how environment and particularly drylands issues can be integrated into national development frameworks.

The objectives of the workshop included: to validate mainstreaming generic guidelines; to promote a common understanding between UNDP and UNEP of the challenges and opportunities for mainstreaming drylands issues into national development frameworks; and to share experiences, lessons and best practices in the mainstreaming process.
