Australia, Finland and Switzerland Elected to ECOSOC

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) elected Australia, Finland and Switzerland to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in a single secret ballot.

The new members will fill the unexpired terms of office of Canada, Denmark and New Zealand.

All will begin their terms of office on 1 January 2015, with Australia's term lasting one year, and Finland and Switzerland's term ending in two years, on 31 December 2016.

All will begin their terms of office on 1 January 2015, with Australia’s term lasting one year, and Finland and Switzerland’s term ending in two years, on 31 December 2016. The election took place on 10 November 2014, in New York, US.

The current members of the Western European and Other States regional group (WEOG) represented on ECOSOC – in addition to the three newly elected members – are Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, San Marino, Sweden, UK and US. [UN Press Release]
