29 August 2018: Apolitical has prepared a digital government atlas as an online resource for governments seeking to digitize services. The atlas aims to provide the materials required to “launch a digital revolution in their department.” Digital services can automate the delivery of public services and ensure the availability of public data via online platforms.

The atlas is a collection of tools, guidebooks and datasets from around the world, as selected by Apolitical’s members. The resources come from national governments, including Canada, Colombia, Mexico and Singapore, as well as from organizations, non-profits, and businesses such as the Open Data Handbook, Tableau Public and Project Open Data.

The atlas breaks down the components of a digital revolution into eight categories: digital government guides; digital standards; government GitHubs; open source resources; toolkits; open data resources; open datasets; and data visualization. These categories allow governments, at any stage of the digitizing process, to access helpful resources. For governments establishing new platforms, the atlas provides design and service standards, while governments further along in the process can learn how to visualize and maintain datasets.

By collecting materials covering the multiple aspects of digital transformation for the first time, Apolitical’s platform brings together a community of practice around proven resources. Users can submit additional resources to be added to the atlas.

Apolitical is an online network where public servants can access resources, connect with other governments and learn from collective experiences to address policy problems. [Apolitical press release]
