Asian Workshop Addresses Financing for Non-Revenue Water Management

The Global Water Operators' Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA)/UN-Habitat, the UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development (UNW-DPC) and the Ministry of Energy and Water, Tajikistan, hosted a regional workshop on 'Capacity Development, Water Operators' Partnerships (WOPs) and Financing for Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Management.'

UN-Habitat.GWOPA.UNW-DPC9 July 2014: The Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA)/UN-Habitat, the UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development (UNW-DPC) and the Ministry of Energy and Water, Tajikistan, hosted a regional workshop on ‘Capacity Development, Water Operators’ Partnerships (WOPs) and Financing for Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Management.’

The meeting, which took place from 7-9 July 2014, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, brought together representatives from Armenia, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Tajikistan, together with regional and international organizations.

The workshop provided a forum for discussions on implementation capacity needs and water loss reduction in water supply operations. Sessions addressed: introduction to NRW; overview of NRW management in participant countries; gaps between state of the art and country situations; financing NRW and water efficiency projects; NRW investments and capacities; Tajik utilities NRW experiences; regional initiatives and projects on water supply; WOPs; and WOP opportunities and WOP platform in Central Asia.
