Asia-Pacific Water Forum Prepares for Upcoming Meetings

The Governing Council of the Asia-Pacific Water Forum made preparations for the upcoming second Asia-Pacific Water Summit and the seventh World Water Forum, and considered updates on the Asia-Pacific Water Development Outlook and follow-up activities.

November 2012: The 12th session of the Governing Council of the Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) addressed, among other issues, preparations for the upcoming second Asia-Pacific Water Summit (APWS) and the seventh World Water Forum.

Tommy Koh, the APWF Governing Council Chair, chaired the 2 November meeting. Regarding the second APWF, to be held from 19-20 May 2013, in Bangkok, Thailand, participants considered meeting logistics and the tentative programme, including the meeting’s main theme: “Water Security: Leadership and Commitment, with special focus on Water Disaster Challenges.”

Regarding the seventh World Water Forum, scheduled to take place in 2015, in the Republic of Korea, participants discussed the need to develop a bridge between scientists and decision makers, the importance of linking water and green growth, and taking the cost of non-action into consideration in relation to disasters.

Other items on the agenda included an update on the Asian Water Development Outlook 2012 and follow-up activities to previous sessions of the APWF. [Meeting Agenda and Documents] [Meeting Highlights]
