Andean Community Approves Project on Adapting Agriculture to Climate Change

The Andean Council of Foreign Ministers approved the execution of the cooperation project with Germany on adapting the agricultural sector to climate change.

22 August 2011: On 22 August, the Andean Community’s (CAN) chief decision-making body, the Council of Foreign Ministers, adopted a legally-binding Decision approving the execution of the German technical cooperation agency’s (GIZ) project with CAN on adaptation of the agricultural sector in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru to climate change.

The project is divided into three major areas: planning and management instruments for adapting the agricultural sector to climate change; a specialized knowledge management system on adapting agriculture to climate change; and strengthening the capacity of authorities and actors to adapt the sector to climate change. The budget for the first phase of the project is three million Euros. [CAN Press Release]
