Advance Version of Secretary-General’s Report on LDCs Released

The report assesses progress on the implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action for the LDCs for the decade 2011–2020, with the aim of providing a benchmark against which future progress will be measured.

It also includes a section on graduation and smooth transition as requested by General Assembly resolution 65/171, and key policy recommendations.

UN logo21 June 2012: The UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (OHRLLS) has released an advanced version of the UN Secretary-General’s report “Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries for the Decade 2011 to 2020.”

The report assesses progress on the implementation of the Istanbul Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) for the decade 2011–2020, with the aim of providing a benchmark against which to measure future progress. It also includes a section on graduation and smooth transition as requested by UN General Assembly (UNGA) resolution 65/171, and key policy recommendations.

The following small island developing States (SIDS) are currently classified at LDCs: Madagascar; Sao Tome and Principe; Kiribati; Solomon Islands; Samoa; Timor-Leste; Tuvalu; and Haiti.
