October 2009: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) published a report on the impact of climate change on Asia and the Pacific’s agriculture sector, highlighting that agriculture will pose a significant development challenge for Asia in the present century. The report, titled “ADB Building Climate Resilience in the Agriculture Sector of Asia and the Pacific,” discusses building climate change resilience into the agriculture sector in Asia.

It presents broad indicators of exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity in the region; highlights the vulnerability of the agricultural sector as a livelihood source for many and as a source of food security for all; and exposes the large heterogeneity in farming systems across Central, East, Southeast, and South Asia and the Pacific Islands. It further presents the many facets of vulnerability to climate change across the region, including undernourishment, poverty, and slowing productivity growth, all of which will be exacerbated by the effects of climate change.
