The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Nordic Development Fund, a joint multilateral development institution of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, will help Viet Nam draft and implement climate change action plans for key cities and government departments.
1 February 2011: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Nordic Development Fund, a joint multilateral development institution of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, have announced a project to help Viet Nam draft and implement climate change action plans for key cities and government departments.
A US$2.5 million technical assistance grant from the Nordic Development Fund, administered by ADB, will help plan and implement climate change response measures, as well as support Viet Nam’s National Target Program for building a more climate-resilient economy and producing fewer greenhouse gases (GHGs). Taking into account Viet Nam’s vulnerability to climate change, including rising sea levels and extreme weather events, impact assessments to identify the risks to economic sectors and communities from climate change will be carried out. In addition, mitigation and adaptation options will be identified and integrated into comprehensive action plans. The grant will support the design of GHG emission reduction projects and the creation of an emissions database that can be regularly updated.
The Government of Viet Nam will match the funding with a contribution of US$250,000. The project is due to begin in May 2011, and be completed by May 2013. [ADB Press Release]
