ADB Improves Water and Sanitation in Madhya Pradesh, India

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) reported on the outcomes of the Urban Water Supply and Environment Improvement Project, which it has supported in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India.

ADB26 April 2013: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) reported on the outcomes of the Urban Water Supply and Environment Improvement Project, which it has supported in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India.

The project, financed by loans of US$200 million in 2003 and US$71 million in 2008, supported improved water access for 5.3 million people, improved sanitation for 0.5 million people and improved solid waste management for 4.7 million people. Among project activities included rehabilitation of pumping stations, installation of water metering systems, installation of 125 kilometers of sewage network and construction of water treatment plants.

In particular, ADB highlights the economic benefits of the project to Madhya Pradesh cities, including Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore and Jabalpur. [ADB Press Release]
