Adaptation Fund24 May 2013: At a seminar on climate adaptation, the Government of Sweden announced a donation of US$15 million to support the Adaptation Fund. The event, which was co-sponsored by the Government of Sweden and the Adaptation Fund, was hosted by the Embassy of Sweden in Washington DC, US.

At the Climate Adaptation Seminar, the Government of Sweden acknowledged the successes of the Fund despite the downturn in the carbon market and the importance of the Fund’s direct access mechanism, which allows countries to directly implement projects without the involvement of a multilateral implementing entity (MIE).

The meeting discussed the current Adaptation Fund projects, lessons learned and the future climate finance architecture. It included insights from governmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), such as the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Resources Institute, the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), the Centre de Suivi Ecologique of Senegal (CSE), Germanwatch, and Argentina’s Unidad para el Cambio Rural (UCAR).
