Adaptationfund1 May 2014: During a Seminar on Readiness for Climate Finance, the Adaptation Fund launched a two-year initiative to strengthen the capacity of national and regional entities to receive and manage climate finance.

At the seminar, held from 1-2 May 2014, in Washington DC, US, the Fund also announced a new grants programme for South-South collaboration in accreditation. National Implementing Entities (NIE) accredited by the Fund and with climate adaptation projects already underway will be eligible to provide support to countries that are seeking accreditation from the Fund. NIEs that have existing programmes include Senegal, Jamaica, Uruguay, Argentina and Rwanda.

The Readiness for Climate Finance programme will bring together NIEs and Regional Implementing Entities (RIE) periodically to share opportunities and challenges in accessing and programming climate finance. The initiative will also include online collaboration and knowledge sharing.
